# Plan limits and coverage

> What happens when you reach or exceed your plan's limits, and how to bring everything back into coverage.

Echod never deletes anything because of your plan. When your organization has more than the plan covers, for example after a downgrade, the extra items are kept but stop being crawled. This is called **coverage**: covered items are crawled, uncovered ones are not.

## Reaching a limit

When you are at a limit and try to add more, Echod opens an **Upgrade Required** dialog. Click **See Plans** to compare plans, or **Dismiss** to go back.

The [setup wizard](https://docs.echod.ai/get-started/quickstart.md) and the [CSV import](https://docs.echod.ai/setup/import-topics-and-prompts.md) both show how much of your prompt allowance you are using before you commit.

## When you are over a limit

| What is over | How you can tell | What happens |
| - | - | - |
| **Prompts** | A notice on the **Prompts** page: "N prompts are no longer being crawled." Affected prompts show **Over plan limit**. | The newest prompts beyond your allowance stop being crawled. They stay editable. |
| **AI platforms** or **regions** | A **Not crawled** badge in **Project Settings > Platforms** or **Regions** | The platforms or regions beyond your allowance are skipped. |
| **Projects** | A red **Not in plan** badge in the project switcher | The project keeps its data but stops crawling and becomes read-only. Its crawl status reads "Crawling paused". |

Prompts are covered oldest first: the prompts you created first keep being crawled, and the most recently created ones are the first to stop.

## Getting back into coverage

You have two options:

* **Upgrade** to a plan with higher limits. Uncovered items start crawling again from the next crawl.
* **Make room** within your current plan:
  * Archive prompts you no longer need, or pause topics.
  * Turn off platforms or regions you can do without.
  * Delete projects you no longer use.

As soon as you are back within the limits, everything is covered again.

## Read-only mode

Separately from limits, your whole organization becomes read-only when your subscription is not active:

* Your trial ended without choosing a plan
* Your subscription was canceled and the paid period is over
* A payment failed and was not resolved

In read-only mode you can still sign in and view all your data, but crawling stops and changes are disabled. Choosing a plan or fixing the payment restores full access. See [Manage your subscription](https://docs.echod.ai/account/manage-subscription.md).
