A topic is a subject your buyers ask AI assistants about. Each topic holds a set of prompts, and Echod reports Visibility, Position and more for every topic, so you can see which subjects you own and which ones you are missing from.

Choosing good topics

Think of topics as the way you would split your market into buying conversations:
  • By need: “CRM for small agencies”, “invoice automation”, “employee onboarding software”
  • By product line: “trail running shoes”, “hiking boots”, “waterproof jackets”
  • By decision stage: “what is a headless CMS”, “headless CMS pricing”, “migrating to a headless CMS”
A few guidelines:
  • Keep each topic focused. “Marketing” is too broad to act on; “email marketing for ecommerce” is not.
  • Use your buyers’ words, not your internal product names.
  • Aim for several prompts per topic. A topic score built on one prompt swings with every answer. Five or more prompts give a steadier number.
There is no limit on the number of topics. Your plan limits the number of prompts. See Plans.

Add a topic

  1. Go to Topics and click Add Topic.
  2. Type the topic in Topic text, or click AI Suggest and pick one from Suggested topics.
  3. In Prompts for this topic, use AI Suggest for prompt ideas, or add your own with Add a custom prompt for this topic.
  4. Save. The new prompts are included in the next crawl.

Every topic is tracked in every region enabled for the project. You do not choose regions per topic. To add many topics and prompts at once, use a CSV file. See Import topics and prompts.

Edit, pause and delete topics

Use the menu at the end of a topic row, or select several rows for bulk actions.
Pause a topic instead of deleting it when you want to stop tracking it for a while. Prompts in a paused topic do not count toward your plan’s prompt allowance, and you keep the history for when you come back.
